Ajysyt

Maternal spirit. Yakut [central Siberia]. The deity who oversees the lying-in of an expectant mother and who brings the child’s soul to the child-bed. The term ajysyt can also apply to a male spirit, thus the ajysyt that oversees the birth of horses is male, while that of horned cattle is female.

Mejenkwaar

by Daniel A. Kelin, II

A type of demon in the Marshall Islands. These demons are almost exclusively female. When a woman was pregnant, often her husband who sail off to go and collect gifts or special food, etc. for his wife. However, if he was gone for too long a period of time, the pregnant woman would turn into a mejenkwaad. Very often this would mean she’d eat her newborn child. When the husband arrived, she’d go after him as well. The story of Lokokelok tells of a man who evades being eaten by a mejenkwaad through a series of tricks he plays on her.

The Fool by Charly

Coming to Birth thru the material
Born to the planet thru meat
Open wide gates of the female
I am born cosmic joker.
Pan-God of the universe supreme
Promise of invention reassured
As I, Sun, of the newborn
Come alive from the dark.
King of the unseen, I declare,
Conquerer of the unknown, I do say,
Traveller of the cosmic voyage
I come to be born anew.
I, at the beginning of the journey,
Come full force like a spring
Metal needle standing up
Like a prick of steel
Male protrusion from the universe
Womb of all existence
I come forth, declaring
I AM
Seal of eternity on my lips
I give forth all
Inside to the outside
Macro to the micro
Seal of power
Washed upon the shores
Cosmic universe
Lapping at my feet

14 – Art

by Anja Heij

The word Art refers to the alchemist art of transforming matter through purification from an imperfect state into a perfect one. This was done by first analysing and transforming the different elements and then mingling opposites in the right proportions. But in fact alchemy is an inner process of refining yourself: first look at all the parts of yourself, bring them into your consciousness, accept them and then mingle your male and female side into a perfect mixture. Tantra describes this as finding the inner lover. The Art card shows this integration of male and female: here the dark man and the light woman of the Lovers card (no. 6) have become one androgyne figure. Through the inner synthesis of our opposite sides we become a higher version of
ourselves.

Idaea

by Dr Alena Trckova-Flamee Ph.D.

The name Ida or Idaea (Idaia) appeared in the Greek myths as the name of two nymphs who were living in various places. The first nymph lived on Ida, which is the highest point of Crete (in modern times called Mount Psiloritis 2456m) and the second one was living on Mount Ida (now named Kaz Gagi 1774m) in ancient Phrygia near Troy, in the north-western region of Turkey. Ida, -idi means in the Greek language the wooded mountain, so this word became the name of the mountains as well as the name of these female divinities; the nymphs who were — according to the myths — living on Mount Ida.
