Chat

Catha edulis
Chat – tree growing to 50 ft (15 m). Chat has reddish twigs, oval leathery leaves, and small yellow or white flowers.
From the air, the upland hills of Ethiopia’s Harar Province look like an immense, carpeted staircase to the sky. Closer inspection reveals the textured carpet that covers the vast steps to be made up of undulating rows of small, leafy trees. In bloom, the trees’ little white flowers seem to dust the landscape like a light snowfall. But this is not the reason that the African evergreen has sometimes been called the flower of paradise. It has earned the idyllic name by virtue of the effect its leaves have on people.

~ Magical Elements ~

To a magician, all magic is based on four Elements: Air, Fire, Water and Earth Ancient occult philosophers and the Druids stated that all life is made of these four Elements; without them life could not exist. Tan or Teine (Fire in the old Celtic language) was con-sidered the most sacred as it is the closest to pure energy.

FOLLETTO

The Folletto travel in the wind and can be seen at play, causing swirls in the dust. They are male; small and light and practically invisible, but their distinguishing feature is that their toes point backwards. They seem to pay no attention to humans, but can be mischievous and annoying. They change the weather merely for their own sport and not for any baneful purpose. Their associated element is Air.

Air Elementals

Air Elementals are spirits of the air, generally they cannot assume a solid form although they can cause storms and heavy winds which can blow ships at sea off course. Aoife the foster-daughter of Bodb Dearg is turned into an Air Elemental because of her transgression of turning the children of her husband Lír into swans.

Beltaine Moon by Charma

Thunderstorm echoes, speaking stories across the earth..
Neath the oaks secret lovers sip golden summer wine..
Beltaine moon rises, shining silver in the evening sky..
In the circle, vibrant, firelit, the lady waits.
DreamSinger sings the songs of old, the dancers spiral turning..
Earth and water, fire and air.. on the altar candles burning.
East then South, West and North, the corner wards are called.
Raise the cup and drink…salute to she who waits..
We who stand on the edge of wonder, ask and do invoke..
Into the circle enter, enter.. love and trust your oath.
The scent of incense fills the night, carries whispers on the wind..
The horned lord bidden, here the lady waits..
Mysteries are spoken, souls and hearts, our will be done…
Passions inflamed are given reign.. freed from earthly bounds.
Renewal, fulfillment, as above.. so below.. and blessed be.
Under the beltaine moon… The lady waits no more..

Air Meditation

(taken from the WICCA echo on Sun 24 Jan 93 22:17)

It is dawn. I find myself in a forest filled with Aspen trees.
I raise my eyes and look for the sky, but the boughs looming overhead hide it from my view. As I look up, feel the cool breeze of spring brush my face, and hear the sound of the rustling leaves. Blowing, laughing from the east, Eurus brings thoughts of renewal and life. I follow the wind further into the soft shadows of the forest, inhaling deeply the strong scent of the trees. I smell, too, the wafting hints of fragrant incense.
