The Sun

There are conflicting accounts of the parentage of Helios (the Sun). In the Homeric Hymn to Helios, we are told that Hyperion married his sister, Eryphaesa, and begot tireless Helios, rosy Eos (the Dawn) and fair tressed Selene (the Moon).

Hebe HE bee

Daughter of Zeus and Hera

Sister to Ares (the god of War) and Eileithyia, Hebe became the modest wife of Herakles (Hercules) after he became immortal and made his home on Mount Olympos (Olympus).

Eris EE ris

Goddess of Discord

Sister of Ares (the god of War), daughter of Zeus and Hera, the hand of Eris can be seen in every quarrel, feud and disagreement. Her eternal and unforgiving rage was the cause of fear and respect on Mount Olympos (Olympus), though despised by the Olympians they dared not confront her.

Magigi

In many myths, the world is destroyed in punishment for a great sin; usually, a husband and wife survive to repopulate the earth (sometimes a brother and sister, sometimes more than two people). In the case of this tale from the Caroline Islands, Magigi forsees the flood, and so she and her husband survive.

Gestinanna

Sister of Dumuzi. The dying Dumuzi, tortured by nightmares, brought the dreams to his sister for interpretation.
Gestinanna realized her brother was under attack by demons. She tells him this and advises him to flee. Dumuzi flees, swearing Gestinanna to secrecy as to where he is going into hiding. The demons attacked Gestinanna to force her to reveal her brother’s whereabouts, but she remained silent. The demons, however, soon found Dumuzi, hiding in the form of a gazelle in his sister’s sheepfold. He was carried off to the underworld by them; Gestinanna then set out to rescue him.
