Bergamot

Citrus bergamia

This wonderfully refreshing and renewing oil is expressed from the peel of the bergamot fruit grown in Southern Italy and some parts of Africa. Bergamot leaves are used in Earl Grey tea. The essential oil acts primarily on the nervous system where it can both soothe and invigorate. It is a bright, cheerful, uplifting oil, used when an individual feels depressed or anxious. At times of stress, just smelling the oil will do wonders for your confidence. The uplifting nature of this oil helps the grief-stricken to be more open to the positive, healing effects of joy and love. It promotes confidence, courage, and discernment.

Women benefit greatly from this essential oil since it helps regulate the menstrual cycle and relieves PMS as well as easing symptoms of menopause. Bergamot cools fevers and has been used in the treatment of urinary tract infections. It can also soothe the digestive and respiratory system, encouraging appetite and a return to health during convalescence. The oil is also effective against travel sickness. With its regenerative qualities, it is an excellent oil for the skin, especially acne and cold sores. Bergamot is an effective deodorizer, which makes it an excellent choice for scenting a room. Bergamot essential oil blends well with almost all other oils. It is widely used in perfumery.
