El Dorado

Originally the name for the Mexican king who was said to be covered in powdered gold, El Dorado later took its place in myth as the fabled city of gold, the ancient and lost metropolis of the Incas. Many European explorers including the Spaniard Gonzalo Jimenez de Quesada and the Englishman Sir Walter Raleigh searched for the fabled city.
