In Slavic mythology (western Slavs) Byelobog (“white god”) is a deity of the sun and of fortune. He is mentioned by the medieval historian Gelmold in his “Slavonic chronicles”. Gelmold says that Byelobog stands in opposition to Chyernobog (“black god”). Modern Russian folklorists V. Ivanov and V. Toporov think that Byelobog is was ‘invented’ by medieval chroniclers. M. Eliade call Byelobog a solar deity which has three manifestations: Khors, Dazsbog and Stribog.
